Salmon Queen is an absolute ripper of a zinnia. She’s got those gorgeous salmony-pink, peachy-orange flowers that look like someone’s gone and painted the whole garden in a bloody sunset. Proper cheerful stuff.
They’re tough as nails, too. Give ’em a sunny spot, decent soil and a drink when they’re thirsty, and they’ll just keep pumping out flowers. And the more you pick, the more they seem to go, which is pretty handy if you’re into having a vase of flowers inside without completely murdering the garden.
The plants get a good bit of height and make a cracking display planted in drifts, especially alongside Cosmos, Ammi and other soft pastel flowers. Chuck a few in amongst the veg patch as well — they bring in the bees and make the whole place look a bit less like you’ve been growing tomatoes for six months.
Basically, Salmon Queen is low-fuss, high-reward gardening. She looks fancy as anything but behaves like a bloody champion. Mate, that’s a ripper.
